proCAGUAMA team

 

The proCaguama team is formed by a group of researchers, students and volunteers dedicated to the scientific work and conservation of the loggerhead turtles. During 2006, students from across Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Spain, Germany, Japan and Cuba contributed their ideas, diversity and flavor to this project.

Meet the proCAGUAMA team 2006

Wallace J. Nichols, co-director, member of the California Academy of Science and Senior Scientist at the Ocean Conservancy.

S. Hoyt Peckham, co-director, is a PhD Candidate from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Hoyt is studying the ecology of loggerhead sea turtles in partnership with local fishermen through ProCaguama in order to develop local conservation solutions.

Johath Laudino Santillán, Environmental Education Coordinator of the Grupo Tortuguero, focuses his efforts on informing the communities about the situation lived by the loggerhead turtles in this region. He is also incharged of helping spread the message of conservation in these communities through different activities.

David Maldonado Díaz works with the fishermen to promote responsible fishing and find new economical alternatives to reduce the pressure the fisheries put on loggerhead sea turtles.

Victor de la Toba, manager of shoreline surveys, is the farero of Cabo San Lazaro and the first to identify the gravity of turtle bycatch in the region.
