How You Can Help Save Sea Turtles

*Join the Grupo Tortuguero! Volunteer, attend annual meetings, work to spread the conservation message in your area. Contact Lindsey Peavey, volunteer coordinator for Pro Peninsula and the Grupo Tortuguero by phone at 619-808-7730 or by email at lindsey@propeninsula.org.

*Distribute Information: Young leaders of the conservation movement offer educational presentations in schools and at annual meetings throughout Mexico and the United States. Additionally, Grupo Tortuguero and our members have a lot of valuable information available for distribution to schools, clubs and individuals. For more information related to our environmental education and outreach programs, click here or email us at info@grupotortuguero.org.

*Take Action: A collection of environmental groups sent a letter to Pope John Paul the second in Rome requesting that he denounce the consumption of turtle meat during Semana Santa. Another method of educating the public is to send a letter to the editor of your local paper, with a description of the suffering being endured by turtles and their fight for survival.

*Create a social stigma associated with the consumption of sea turtles: Think critically about how your diet affects the creatures of the sea and earth. Don't eat sea turtles!

*Report illegal activity: If you see anyone capturing a turtle, selling turtle meat or eggs, or transporting a turtle or any of its parts, please report it! If it is possible, take a photo or write down the details of the situation- get a description of the people who were committing the act.
